SAIA is the representative body for South Africa's non-life insurance industry. Its mission is to create a common vision for the industry and help enhance stakeholder trust in the industry. That means engaging with regulators and policymakers about new legislation, promoting awareness of the industry and encouraging fair and ethical treatment of policyholders.
And that matters, because public confidence in insurance isn't a given. It gets earned, again and again, through every regulatory conversation, every industry commitment, and every claim paid fairly.
Matthee brings more than two decades in insurance to the role. He joined OUTsurance in 2002 and has since worked his way through several senior leadership positions within the group, including CEO of Youi Insurance in Australia and being appointed as CEO of OUTsurance Insurance and OUTsurance Life in South Africa in 2017, a role he still holds today. He's also served on the SAIA Board since 2017, including as Chairperson of its Transformation Committee.
In response to the appointment, Matthee said in SAIA's official announcement: ‘I am honoured by the confidence the SAIA board has placed in me. Insurance matters most when things go wrong, and our responsibility is to remain relevant, affordable, and trusted.’
