The past weekend marked the third successive win for Team TIB in the OUTsurance KZN Expedition event. TIB team member, Andrew Hill, was a clear favourite to win the race – and with two successive wins already behind his belt, he once again came out tops as individual winner of this event.

In contrast to previous years, it soon became clear that riders’ abilities would be tested from the very word go. The route proved to be extremely demanding, resembling that of a XC style track with quick climbs followed up by longer single tracks where riders’ technical abilities were put to the ultimate test.

BMC Mr Price cyclist, Andrew Warr was first to lead the race, closely followed by riders Werner Moolman, Andrew Hill and Paul Austin.

Hill and Warr’s fast-paced racing dominated the race and made for a spectacular display of racing tactics, especially so when after 80km of hard racing, the last few kilometres came down to a dramatic sprint finish.

After the race, Hill commented that although there was little opportunity to break away from Warr, he was only too aware of the fact that any mistake on his part, however small - could’ve resulted in a very different outcome.

He complimented race organisers, Cyclingnews on once again pulling off a world-class cycling event like the KZN Expedition with great success.
