OUTsurance, in partnership with 94.7 Highveld Stereo, once again dedicated themselves to making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate by collecting and distributing blankets and clothes to various charities throughout Gauteng.

The 2009 Blanket Drive took off on the 15th of June with the 94.7 Ground Patrol team visiting various shopping centres where members of the public could donate blankets, clothes or money. OUTsurance showed their support by donating two blankets for every person who called OUTsurance for a quote.

"We realised that there are many people who would love to help those in need but simply don’t know where to start. That’s why OUTsurance made it easy for people to help the less fortunate this winter. And it didn’t cost them a cent", said Peter Cronjé, Head of Marketing for OUTsurance.

"What we asked the public to do was to take a few minutes of their time to complete a car insurance quote with one of our advisors. For each car insurance quote, we donated two blankets to those in need", he added.

Cronjé commented that “more than half of the people who called us for a car insurance quote ended up joining the OUTsurance family. For most of them it was only because we saved them money on their car insurance, but for the rest, it was because we saved them money and at the same time they took pride in supporting a company that does something to Help South Africa OUT.”

In 2008, more than 31,428 blankets were distributed. However, when the 2009 Campaign draw to a close on the 6th of July, a record total of 40 000 blankets and more than R70 000 in donations were collected. These donations were divided amongst a total of 19 charities throughout Gauteng.

The 2009 Blanket Drive campaign can probably be best summed up in the words of Mr Chris van Deventer, a new OUTsurance client. “Being part of a project like this, was completely a new experience for me. I always had the best of intentions, but never got around to doing anything. Only now did I realise just how easy it was to make a meaningful contribution in the life of someone less fortunate than myself. I now make a point of keeping an ear to the ground to find out where else I can get involved“.
