Looking back on a successful partnership
The Pointsmen project grew from humble roots, starting in 2005 with just 21 men and women helping to keep motorists safe. After 12 years of steady growth, Jacaranda FM became the media partner in 2017.
The partnership took the project to new heights, making the OUTsurance Pointsmen and women an integral part of life in Gauteng.
Going all-OUT for South Africans
The OUTsurance Pointsmen and women are famous for their role in alleviating traffic congestion and helping to keep the roads safe. But these real-life superheroes are always willing to go above and beyond that.
In April 2020 they helped to flatten the curve of Covid 19 by sanitising taxis and taxi ranks in many areas of Johannesburg and Tshwane including Mamelodi, Tshwane CBD, Soshanguve, Pretoria North and Bronkhorstspruit, Ekurhuleni, Soweto, Mogale City and Johannesburg City Centre.
When there was civil unrest in July 2021, they sprung into action again, embarking on a three-day-long clean-up operation in affected areas of Alexandra, Ivory Park, Johannesburg CBD, Thembisa and Soweto.
A bright future ahead
OUTsurance’s partnership with Jacaranda FM and the cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane is still going strong.
According to Traffic Freeflow (TFF) Tshwane’s Chief Executive Officer Bheki Zondo, “The OUTsurance Pointsmen project continues to create job opportunities, enriching South African communities from the ground up. I’m proud to work with the passionate men and women who are expertly trained by the JMPD”.
Jacaranda FM’s Managing Director, Deirdre King, shares this sense of pride saying, “our listeners rely on us for up-to-date traffic reporting, and they rely on the Pointsmen to help get them home safely. We’re proud to have formed this unique connection with our listeners through our partnership with OUTsurance”.
Carl Louw, the Chief Marketing Officer at OUTsurance celebrates the continued success of the project saying, “The OUTsurance Pointsmen are an extension of our values, ensuring that motorists get more OUT of their commutes. We’re excited to keep Johannesburg and Tshwane moving through our partnership with Jacaranda FM, Traffic Freeflow, the City of Tshwane and the City of Johannesburg”.
