OUTsurance Mandela Day Projects
OUTsurance staff went all out and volunteered their time by handing out food packs, nappies, cleaning up and donating educational material to various organisations.
In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, OUTsurance staff at the Main and Oak Campuses packed over 40 000 food packs. These food packs were donated to various charity organisations and early childhood development centres.
Cape Town staff spent their 67 minutes packing meals with Ladles of Love in Epping 2 in Cape Town, an organisation that provides nutritious and wholesome food to communities.
OUTsurance staff pledged an amount of R10 000 towards Bracken High School’s Interact Club’s feeding project as they prepared and served warm meals to the community.
‘When I listened to the team at Bracken High School Interact Club describe the programme, they said that it’s a soup kitchen, and they need some sustainability, so we decided to donate R10 000 to this cause. Not all the funds will be used today but they will go towards sustaining the soup kitchen,’ said OUTsurance Chief Marketing Officer, Carl Louw.
The OUTsurance IT team visited the Anchorage Academy to install computer equipment and infrastructure.
Anchorage Academy is a school that was started with the aim to help children with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Asperger’s or any other learning difficulty as well as mainstream children who benefit from smaller classes and individual attention.
OUTsurance IT Support Technician Khutso Lebese explained: ‘We chose Anchorage Academy to improve the learners’ knowledge about technology. They are all unique and special in their own way but that does not mean they must be left behind in the fast-paced world. We want them to learn more about technology as it’s a fantastic tool that can open up a whole new world of possibilities for them.’
‘We were there to remind them that they are capable, brilliant and unstoppable. They should embrace their uniqueness, harness their strength and dive into the world of computers, robotics and coding with confidence,’ added Lebese.
OUTsurance staff made a donation of nappies worth R10 000 to Rock of Joy Place of Safety in Magalieskruin, Pretoria. This is a safe house that admits and takes care of abandoned, abused, sick and neglected babies and toddlers. Staff also spent time at the safe house, assisting staff to look after the babies’ needs.
Staff members also donated R15 000 worth of reusable, cost-effective nappies to For the Love of Babies.
OUTsurance staff in KwaZulu-Natal and Gqeberha spent their 67 minutes cleaning up litter, and planting a sustainable vegetable garden at the St Theresa’s Home for Boys
Mandela Day is one of the many projects that the OUTsurance CSI programmes supports. Through staff contributions and efforts, they are able to reach more organisations and make a difference in more people’s lives.
