Get a flexible funeral plan to suit your needs
The low-cost, flexible funeral plan
We believe that a funeral is a chance to honour and celebrate a life well-lived. It’s why we have created a funeral plan that gives you flexibility to choose what’s important to you and your loved ones, at a price that you can afford.
Why choose the OUTsurance Funeral Plan?
Instead of a single price for a range of people, we quote you as an individual and offer the most suitable premium.
Choose your cover amount, from R30 000 to R100 000. You can change this cover amount whenever you want.
Add your spouse, up to 8 children and even your parents or parents-in-law. You can also add or remove family members whenever you want.
If times get tough, pause your cover and premium for up to three months. During this period, you don’t have to pay any premiums, and you will also not have any cover. When you begin paying again, your cover will resume with no waiting periods.
Add these extra cash benefits to your funeral plan
The following benefits are available as added extras on your policy and will pay out up to R5 000 each.
- Transport benefit
- After tears benefit

Frequently asked questions about funeral cover
Life insurance is designed to pay out a large amount of money to take care of your loved ones, in the event of death. This payout can go towards a home, ongoing living expenses and even education. Life insurance can also include cover that pays out if you become critically ill.
A funeral plan typically pays out a smaller amount of money than life insurance. That is because funeral cover is designed to take care of the costs associated with a funeral alone.
Your children will continue to be covered under your policy irrespective of their age (i.e., they remain covered even after turning 21).
Without funeral cover, your family may face financial hardship after your passing. They may need to rely on savings, taking out a loan or may need to seek financial assistance from relatives or friends. This may create additional stress and financial hardship, potentially affecting their ability to cope with the loss.
At OUTsurance, you can choose how much funeral cover you want, and you can change this amount as often as you need. Please note that waiting periods will apply. We offer funeral cover from R30 000 to R100 000.
If you are the main life OUTsured (the policy is in your name) and you pass away, then we will pay out the claim on the policy to your nominated beneficiary. If anyone else covered under your policy passes away, the benefit will be paid out to you.
You can select the following additional benefits to add to your cover.
A stillborn benefit: We will pay out R5000 in the event of a stillborn child after 26 weeks of pregnancy. The mother of the stillborn child has to be either the main life insured or the spouse covered on your funeral plan.
Premium waiver benefit: If the main life insured passes away and a valid claim is paid, cover for all persons on the OUTsurance funeral policy will continue for three months before the policy is cancelled and no premiums will need to be paid during this period.
Repatriation benefit: The transportation within South Africa of the deceased to a funeral home chosen by the family, where the chosen funeral home is more than 100km from the place of death.
In addition to the main insured person (yourself), you can also add your spouse, your parents, parents-in-law, and your extended family (i.e. the main insured's brothers and sisters, your brother's spouse, sister's spouse, your grandparents and grandchildren, your aunts and uncles, first cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as your children's spouses. Please refer to the funeral policy wording for a detailed breakdown of who you can cover under the main insured person's policy.
Keep in mind that if you choose to take out funeral cover with OUTsurance that you, as the main life insured, need to have a valid South African ID number. You also need to make sure that the family members listed on your policy are South African citizens. They must also live in South Africa for at least 6 months in any 12-month period.
The major benefit of funeral cover is that it gives you the reassurance that, regardless of your circumstances at the time of a loved one’s death, the majority of the funeral costs will be taken care of.
Once a valid funeral claim is paid out, you will be able to take care of any funeral planning and making the necessary arrangements without having to worry about having enough money at your disposal to cover all the funeral costs.
No. All the people covered on your policy need to be South African citizens and live in South Africa for a minimum of six months in any 12-month period. The main life OUTsured must have a valid South African ID number.
Yes, your premium will increase once a year by 5% on the anniversary date of your policy.

Transport is provided to the destinations within South Africa and up to Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana or Mozambique.
