OUTsurance's life insurance product provides comprehensive death cover (also referred to as life cover) to cover you in the event of death. This includes a terminal illness benefit – where, if you have a life expectancy of less than 12 months, we’ll pay 50% of the Sum OUTsured to a maximum amount of R1 million.

Critical illness insurance

OUTsurance will provide comprehensive critical illness cover if you are diagnosed with a chronic illness. Please refer to the detailed cover table for more information.

Medical tests

You won't need to pay for medical tests before taking out life cover with us! If you're required to undergo blood tests, simply click here to view all the available medical laboratories in your area. Qualifying clients can get up to R5 million cover without having to go for insurance medicals or blood tests. 

Medical nurse

If we do require any blood tests and, for whatever reason, you're unable to visit a medical laboratory in your area, we'll see to it that a medical nurse visits you in the comfort of your own home - free of charge! How's that for awesome service!

Advanced underwriting

We've got advanced underwriting systems in place to make sure that your premium is determined based on your individual risk factors. This means that if you're a low-risk client, you could pay significantly less than someone who is a higher risk.

If we ask you to  go for a blood test, we will cover the cost and - if you're unable to visit a lab, we're more than happy to assist by sending a medical nurse to your home on a time and date that works best for you.

What is not covered under my life policy?

There is no cover resulting directly or indirectly from any of the following: intentional…

There is no cover resulting directly or indirectly from any of the following:

  • intentional self-inflicted injury 
  • suicide within the first 24 months from the start date of your cover, or the date on which you added any additional products or benefits to your cover, or the date you increased the sum insured. The 24-month exclusion in this instance will only apply to the amount by which you increased your cover.
  • intentional intake of drugs, narcotics or medication unless prescribed by a registered medical practitioner and used as prescribed
  • driving while the concentration of alcohol in your blood exceeds the legal limit
  • if you refuse any treatment (including surgery) recommended by a registered medical practitioner or by our Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
  • if you (or any person acting on your instruction) are involved in any criminal activity
  • nuclear reaction or nuclear radiation
  • active participation in war, armed international conflict, rebellion, civil commotion , sabotage, any act of terrorism whether acting alone or under instruction or any activity associated with the forgoing or the defence, investigation or containment thereof by any security force, unless this is a required part of your occupation noted on your schedule 
  • you are not covered if a dreaded disease is a result of excessive alcohol consumption or use of drugs other than as prescribed by a medical practitioner.
