The all-new 5km Pet Walk
This was the first time that the OUTsurance Gun Run had a category for the furry members of the family with the introduction of the 5km pet walk. Participants brought their dogs of various sizes to take part in the walk and enjoy the day with the rest of the participants.
The introduction of the pet walk ties in perfectly with the introduction of the OUTsurance Pet Insurance product, launched late in 2020. In a South African first, OUTsurance is the only pet insurer to offer a Pet OUTbonus where pet clients will be rewarded with 10% of their paid premiums back in cash after three consecutive claim-free years. OUTsurance projects that the first Pet OUTbonus payouts will be made in the first quarter of 2024.

The event charity
An amount of R51 522 was raised through the race and was matched by the title sponsor, OUTsurance. This brought the total funds raised to R103 044. All proceeds from the OUTsurance Gun Run were donated to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa who plan to use these funds to buy a new six-berth dog trailer and fund the sterilisation of animals in Gugulethu. The rest of the funds will be used to buy pet food and paying for pet care bills at their Philippi headquarters. The money raised from the Gun Run will ensure that the organisation continues to provide the much-needed care to animals from underdeveloped communities.
‘We’re happy to be back for the 28th anniversary of the OUTsurance Gun Run and to be able to make a contribution to a worthy cause like the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa,’ said OUTsurance Chief Marketing Officer, Carl Louw.
