Whether you’re training for a marathon or looking for a scenic walk with your furry friend, the OUTsurance Gun Run has been ensuring that you always get more fun and fitness OUT for 30 years! And this year was no different. You could feel the determination as the runners lined up for their respective races. The fitness enthusiast rose to the challenge in the 10km run and the 21.1km half-marathon, whilst the adventure-seekers faced the tricky Cape town mountain terrain in the 17km trail run.

Race information

Over 17,000 runners showed up ready to gun for faster times and more fun! With 9,270 entries in the 21.1km and 5,206 entries in the 10km, it’s easy to see that the OUTsurance Gun Run is a race enjoyed by runners from all walks of life.

The races kicked off at Fritz Sonnenberg Road in Green Point and finished at the Green Point Common to complete the picturesque route.

Lloyd Bosman took gold in the 21,1km half-marathon in a blistering time of 1:02:55, whilst Tayla Kavanagh finished in style with a competitive time of 1: 13:03. Michael Ulrich crossed the OUTsurance Gun Run finish line for the 30th time! Making him the only person who’s been there from the start. It was truly a memorable moment to celebrate 30 years with him.

The OUTsurance Gun Run gives back to charity

The OUTsurance Gun Run is more than just a race, it’s a platform that gives back. In 2024, we donated a total of R100,000 to the Animal Welfare Society (AWS), the official charity for the OUTsurance Gun Run. ‘This donation makes a huge difference’, said Allan Perrins the AWS Head of Communications, Resource Development and Fundraising. ‘Last year’s funds were used for an important sterilisation project, and we are doing more of the same with this years’ donation. We will be using these funds to drive a programme of sterilisation, vaccination and chip implants in and around our own base in Philippi.’

What to expect from the 2025 OUTsurance Gun Run

It might seem like an impossible challenge to top last year’s 30th celebration, but the 2025 OUTsurance Gun Run promises to exceed all your expectations. We are hoping for record-breaking entries, big winners and more. Get ready to BOOM to new heights!
