The BOOM heard from the shooting of the canon wasn’t the only BOOM during the 2025 OUTsurance Gun Run. Every person who entered had their own personal ‘BOOM’ moment this year, whether it was setting a new race record time in the half-marathon or finishing their first 5km, everyone deserved to feel like a winner!
The race heard around Cape Town
The streets of Cape Town once again came alive as thousands of runners, walkers and the cutest four-legged friends gathered for the 2025 OUTsurance Gun Run! The weekend kicked off with a BOOM and ended with a literal bang—thanks to the legendary Signal Hill Noon Canon.
This year, an impressive 18,790 runners, walkers and pet parents showed up to participate and have some healthy fun. Whether you were braving the mountains in search of the best views or pushing your fitness limits in the streets of Cape Town. This year had it all: sunshine, fast times and even a touch of Springboks rugby ‘gees’ in the Beer tent after the race.
What made 2025 a year to remember?
The half-marathon was full of excitement as Joseph Khoarahlane Seutloaloi from Lesotho set a new race record time of 1 hour 2 minutes and 27 seconds. On the women’s side, Busiswe Chamane claimed gold with a strong finish at 1 hour 17 minutes. The trail runners didn’t let a mountain stand in their way as Philani Sengce conquered the rugged terrain to win the men’s race in 1 hour 13 minutes, while Ebeth Marais kicked dust in her competitors’ eyes with a blistering time of 1 hour 27 minutes, an OUTstanding 13 minutes ahead of second place.
The 10km sprint had us biting our nails, with mere seconds separating the top contenders. Adam Lipschitz edged OUT the win at 29 minutes 18 seconds, closely followed by Bruce-Lynn Damons at 29 minutes 32 seconds. Shanae Williams didn’t hold back to claim the win at 33 minutes 30 seconds and Kyla Jacobs narrowly missed OUT on the win as she crossed the finish line at 33 minutes 37 seconds.
OUTsurance gives more than just good vibes
Each year the OUTsurance Gun Run donates money to a worthy cause. The Animal Welfare Society offers a full range of veterinary services to the underprivileged and disadvantaged communities of Cape Town. A total of R75 943 was raised by entrants and OUTsurance matched this amount by donating R75 000, bringing the total to an impactful R150 943. These funds will be used to drive their programme of sterilisation, vaccination and chip implants in and around their base in Philippi.
Until next time, Cape Town!
The OUTsurance Gun Run is more than just another race — it is a celebration of community. Whether you crossed the finish line with a personal best, a stroll, or a selfie, you were part of something special, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
