OUTsurance Staff  visited Woodrock Animal Rescue in Hennops River Valley, Pretoria, to share some love with our furry friends.

In its mission to make a difference in the lives of those who don’t have a voice to speak for themselves, OUTsurance Staff made a donation of R200 000 to Woodrock Animal Rescue.

These funds went towards financing the sterilisation of animals at the shelter. With this amount, the shelter managed to sterilise 181 dogs and 70 cats, a total of 251 animals. Woodrock firmly believes that sterilisation is the most effective way to reduce the overpopulation and cruelty to animals.

OUTsurance Staff volunteers visited the premises where they gave the facilities a fresh coat of paint. They also cleaned and organised the storage and kennel areas.

In addition, OUTsurance Staff  donated cleaning materials, paint supplies and seed packs to Woodrock.

‘The idea behind OUTsurance’s Staff Helping SA OUT initiative (SHSAO) is to give  staff the opportunity to give back to the community. This can be by means of a monthly donation, by nominating projects, or by volunteering,’ said SHSAO Coordinator, Monica Coetzee.

‘It was the first time that we visited Woodrock Animal Rescue, but it most definitely won’t be the last. It always warms my heart to see the love and dedication OUTies show to those who cannot help themselves. The belly rubs and ear scratches as well as long walks (runs for some) that were given to the furry personalities at Woodrock were much appreciated. We also had the privilege of sharing lunch with those who dedicate their time and resources to these animals on a daily basis, and we were amazed by their level of dedication and commitment.’

Woodrock Animal Rescue is a non-profit pro-life rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming organisation. They have been operating since 1992, and over 300 animals call this place home. The organisation carries out outreach programs within Gauteng’s informal settlements on a monthly basis. They assist in dipping, deworming and treating fleas on many of the animals. The organisation also distributes dog food to many community members.

‘The work that was done by the volunteers made our work load a bit lighter and the artwork that was done is just amazing. Some of the team did not even want to leave by the end of the day, and that was so heartwarming for me to experience.’ said Woodrock Manager, Anni Kittey.

‘I don't even have to mention the fabulous donation we received, this made a big difference for a shelter like ours,’ she added.
