OUTies join the Catch-Up program and volunteer their time to make sure township children don't fall off the school bus.

No matter how hard teachers try, some kids still fall off the school bus, which is why our Staff Helping SA OUT(SHSAO) initiative is teaming up with Catch-Up to make a difference in the lives of children in township schools.

Catch-Up is an up and coming volunteer project that tutors at schools in the community to offer much needed support to pupils struggling with their school work. The Catch-Up volunteers are people from all walks of life who donate their time and passion over weekends and school holidays to help learners “catch-up”.

By helping students from grades 4 to 7 keep up with their school work, we can ensure fewer learners drop out of school. Catch-Up aims to improve the general confidence of students and help the schooling system produce more matriculants who can contribute positively to South Africa.

We were overwhelmed by the response from our staff who signed up as Catch-Up tutors. A group of eager OUTies spent a Saturday morning at Paradise Christian School in Olievenhoutbosch. With help from top quality study material provided by Study Champ, our staff had the very best tools to work closely with students in small groups focusing on their English and Mathematics curriculum.

But it wasn’t all work and no play. Everyone took time to play a game or two of soccer and enjoy a healthy meal generously sponsored by In The Kitchen catering.

The great news is that this won’t be a one-time experience. Staff Helping SA OUT has chosen Catch-Up as an ongoing community project and our staff will continue spending their Saturday mornings from 09:00 till 12:00 helping out. We wish all students the best of luck because if they put in the work, we know that one day they will reap the rewards!
