Lightning surge protection

Load shedding, power surges, and lightning strikes can cause costly damage to your appliances and electronics. You can implement a valuable line of defence against power surges by making use of surge protection devices.

What is lightning and surge protection?

A surge or lightning protection device prevents damage to electrical equipment from over-voltage transient events by blocking or redirecting surge current to the ground instead of passing through the equipment. Surge protection is connected to a conductor on the line side of equipment.

How do lightning surge protectors work?

When a sudden increase in voltage occurs, such as from a lightning strike or damage to a power line, a surge protector detects the excess current and safely diverts it through the house's grounding path.
