Road athletes of local clubs played second fiddle to visiting athletes from Central Gauteng in last Sunday morning's OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run half-marathon and 10 km event in Green Point.
In the half-marathon, which was won in 64:38 by the visiting Mr Price athlete Enoch Skosana of Central Gauteng, the first local athlete across the line was Sibusiso Mbingeleli of Mr Price (WP). Mbingeleli completed the course in 66:58. Last year's winner, Avukile Ntongana, also of Mr Price, this year filled 5th spot in 69:09, with Nelson Charlie (VOB) 6th in 69:16. Winner in 2005, Lindikhaya Mthangayi (Mr Pr), finished 8th in 70:51, with Christopher Ncipha (Edgem) 9th in 70:56. First junior in 72:28 was Sipho Phala of VOB.
The women's race was also won by a visitor, Moleboheng Matata of Mr Price (SG). Matata (79:29) edged out Bulelwa Mtshagi (MP Celt, 79:46) by 17 seconds. Hard on Mtshagi's heels was Nomvuyisi Seti (Mr Pr, 3rd in 79:47). Mtshagi's club mate Busisiwe Matiwane filled 10th spot in 94:12. They were members of the winning MP Celtics women's team.
In the 10 km race Zolile Bhitane (28:35) and his twin brother Zolani (28:36) crossed the line within one second of each other. Winner in 32:32 of the women's race was Zintle Xiniwe (MP Celt), with her club mate Thozama April 3rd in 33:49.
