OUTsurance celebrates 10 years of direct short term insurance

In late February 2008, OUTsurance officially turned 10 years old. The company's CEO, Ernst Gouws exclaims, "I really can't believe it's been 10 years already. We are truly proud to have built such a dynamic organisation that is able to deliver great value for money and world class service to the benefit of our many clients."

OUTsurance was born out of the Firstrand/RMBH stable as one of South Africa's first direct short term insurers. From the outset it was clear that this company was going to do things differently. "The name OUTsurance set us apart from the rest of the INsurance industry. It was clear in the minds of consumers that they were in for something different. What's in a name some may ask? Quite a lot actually, in my opinion" commented Gouws.

OUTsurance also chose to distance themselves from the rest of the market in that it was the first insurer to reward clients for not claming by giving them cash back. Gouws explains, "The OUTbonus was brought to market because we realised that for a grudge purchase like insurance, it would be great to give something back to clients that have been fortunate enough not to have claimed. This concept also increased the loyalty of clients, thereby overcoming the high rate of churn that is typical to this market. OUTsurance has always been about clients always getting something OUT."

In the 10 years that the company has been around, it has grown its workforce from a mere few individuals to over 1,500 staff members. The OUTsurance call centre is one of the most advanced and largest call centres under one roof. In dealing with all those calls Gouws had the following to say; "We‘re incredibly proud of the service that we offer. We take hundreds of thousands of calls monthly and we manage to answer those calls on average in under six seconds. Our commitment to providing AWESOME service is unwavering. When we do drop the ball, we fix it. As simple as that."

The OUTsurance brand has been voted as the top brand in its sector by Sunday Times for three consecutive years now. In talking about what the future holds, Gouws commented, "Our future depends on continuously giving our clients awesome service and good value for money, while keeping OUTsurance a great place to work at for our staff. We have by no means ‘arrived' yet, and need to work at this relentlessly."
