General Information about OUTsurance

History and Culture at OUTsurance

In early February 1998, OUTsurance was 'brought to life' by Willem Roos, Howard Aron and René Otto - offering car and household insurance directly to South Africans with the promise of "you always get something OUT". With over a decade under our belt, the company is a resounding success and has become one of the leaders in the short-term insurance market with much to be proud of!

OUTsurance is a member of the FirstRand Group and an approved financial services provider.

In 2003, Business OUTsurance launched to cater for the unique business insurance needs of all types and sizes of businesses.

OUTsurance Namibia has also been operating in the Namibian personal short-term insurance market since July 2007.

OUTsurance entered the life insurance market in August 2008 by offering car insurance clients Credit Life cover on financed vehicles.

We then expanded into the life insurance market in August 2010 by offering comprehensive death, disability and critical illness cover as a fully-fledged life insurer too.

In November 2008 Youi, our sister company in Australia, launched with world-class online quoting functionality offering car and home insurance to the Australian market.

OUTsurance offers South Africans an insurance alternative of note:

  • Through our sophisticated call centre, clients are able to talk directly to us without needing to go through a middle-man. This means no insurance broker fees or commissions are charged.
  • Clients receive a cash OUTbonus - the first reward system in South Africa to return cash to clients who remain claim-free. To date, we've already paid out more than R800 million in cash to more than 150 000 happy clients!
  • With our highly sophisticated underwriting systems, premiums are calculated according to a client's unique risk profile, meaning low-risk clients would not subsidise high-risk clients. So, if you're a low-risk client, you can get insured by OUTsurance for much less than what you're currently paying somewhere else.
  • Our insurance products are affordable, straightforward and there are no hidden surprises.
  • Our short-term insurance clients pay a fixed excess amount, irrespective of the value of their claim and their premiums are fixed for a full 12 months.

A culture of 'awesomeness'

  • Our staff are passionate about service - we're real go-getters who will go the extra mile to get the job done.
  • We have a vibrant, employee-centered work environment and constantly challenge ourselves to become better at what we do. We strongly believe in ‘giving back to the community' and support various projects throughout South Africa. This includes the Pointsmen project where a team of men and women dedicate their time and effort to assisting motorists at busy intersections throughout Johannesburg, as well as the Staff Helping SA OUT project where staff members dedicated themselves to making a difference in the lives of less fortunate South Africans.
